Hosted by Energy Box, the 4th Solar Energy Storage Future Germany 2026 was successfully held and wrapped up at Munich Marriott Hotel City West in Munich, Germany on June 22, 2026.
Hundreds of outstanding industry representatives and over 60 speakers from Europe’s solar and storage sectors attended the conference, including distributors, installers, investors, project developers, EPC contractors, financial institutions, technical service providers and industry associations. Participants conducted in-depth discussions on development trends of Europe’s solar and storage market, project bankability, revenue models, project delivery, digital operation and commercial & industrial energy storage applications.
Against the backdrop of Europe’s ongoing energy transition and rapid shifts in power market mechanisms, the conference centered on the industry’s new phase of "shifting from scale expansion to system optimization", building a high-quality communication platform for all participants along Europe’s solar and energy storage industrial chain.
Dr. Andreas Hauer, Member of the Board of the German Energy Storage Association (BVES) and the first speaker at the conference, systematically elaborated on the vital role of energy storage amid high penetration of renewables, focusing on the flexibility storage delivers for renewable energy integration.
He pointed out that the future energy system will shift from a fossil fuel-dominated centralized structure to a distributed, diversified system centered on renewables such as photovoltaic and wind power. During this transition, power systems are required to match electricity supply and demand across time and space. Meanwhile, the overall system flexibility needs to be boosted via multiple solutions, including energy storage, energy management systems, heat pumps, thermal energy storage, bidirectional EV charging, and cross-user energy coordination.
Dr. Andreas Hauer stressed that energy storage is no longer merely standalone battery equipment, but a critical infrastructure supporting the coordinated operation of power, heat, transportation and distributed energy resources. Whether it is large-scale grid-side energy storage or behind-the-meter applications for residential and commercial & industrial scenarios, energy storage will undertake more vital regulation and support functions within the future energy system.
Christian Theeck, Global Energy Business Line Manager of TÜV SÜD, delivered a keynote speech titled "A New Era of Bankability", sharing in-depth insights into the bankability, reliability and risk control of energy storage projects in the new era.
Christian Theeck pointed out that as energy storage projects keep expanding in scale, investors, developers and asset owners are shifting their understanding of project bankability. A project’s ability to secure financing depends not merely on qualified individual components, but more importantly on the system’s long-term performance under real operating conditions, the integration and interoperability of various devices, as well as safety assurance capabilities throughout the entire project lifecycle.
